Our Qioptiq facility in St. Asaph, Denbighshire, United Kingdom specializes in the design, development, manufacture and support of complex optronic modules, systems and products for defense and aerospace applications and markets. This facility holds key positions in sales, marketing, research & development, engineering, manufacturing, coating, customer support and other disciplines.
The St. Asaph facility provides innovative solutions to a global customer base in the areas of infrared, image-intensified, and fused-surveillance and target-acquisition equipment for dismounted, vehicle and naval applications – avionic modules and components – space technology – optronics systems and sub-systems. We are a trusted key supplier to the world’s Primes, Governments, MoDs and DoDs.
Job Outline
We are recruiting operators to work throughout our manufacturing facility on a variety of shift patterns (Days, 2 shift (mornings and afternoons), 3 shift (mornings, afternoons and nights) with opportunities in the following areas:
Optical Shop
Machine Shop
Holography
Coating
Assembly
These roles all offer unique challenges and opportunities, previous manufacturing experience will be beneficial.

Key Responsibilites
· Ensure component quality is acceptable and dimensions correct to ensure its suitability for further processing
· Select, inspect and prepare all required tooling to ensure the accurate production of components and assemblies
· Ensure all component preparatory work is carried out correctly to attain precision components efficiently and minimise expensive component losses
· Select relevant tooling and equipment to attain the most effective method of producing high quality precision components.
· Ensure that the required quality and operating standards are satisfied throughout each stage of manufacture to achieve optimum quality.
· Sets up relevant machinery to ensure efficient production of precision components
· Inspect the components being worked throughout the operation and decide on alterations required to achieve the finished component.
· Re-work of damaged components when possible is done in order to recoup potential losses.
· Instruct other employees in the operation of machinery and processes and assists other personnel in the department
· Ensure that the equipment and work area is cleaned and maintained in accordance with the operator’s maintenance schedule and the required departmental standards
· Support the business needs by participating in ongoing process/business improvement programmes
Personal Specification
Candidates should demonstrate a good level of education (at least a grade C or above in Maths and English O Level/GCSE or equivalent), mechanical aptitude and an appreciation of mechanical principles, but above all the willingness to learn. Candidates should be flexible and keen to learn new processes and procedures with a positive attitude and ‘can do’ approach.
This role would particularly suit candidates who have experience of using small equipment, with intricate parts such as small scale model kits, embroidery, nail art, pc/laptop hardware, mobile phone rebuild etc.
Flexibility of working hours may be required, along with availability to work overtime to meet business needs.
The successful candidates would ideally have experience of assembly processes and techniques. It would also be a great advantage if applicants had Optical Handling experience, however given the specialised nature of our business full training will be given.
