Our facility in Singapore has key functions in research and development, procurement, sales and finance for our Lighting and Detection business lines, in addition to key functions related to our Optics Manufacturing capabilities.
This site produces optical lenses such as spherical, aspherical and plano optics, with large machine shop capabilities and expertise in optical coating and assembly. Our photonic products and solutions serve a wide range of markets and applications in the areas of medicine, life science, industrial manufacturing, defense, and aerospace, as well as research and development.
We are presently seeking a Assembly Process Engineering Manager that responsible responsible for guiding the technical team, including Assembly Process Engineering and Test Engineering, to develop repeatable production processes and enable operations to deliver products that meet the organization’s Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost targets.
Main responsibilities:
- Manage, mentor, and develop the team to achieve high performance and continuous improvement in laser/fiber assembly processes.
- Oversee task planning, prioritize critical activities, and ensure the smooth execution of daily operations.
- Conduct periodic performance appraisals for engineers and recommend areas for improvement or skill upgrades where applicable.
- Secure necessary resources for team success, including researching and proposing capital investments.
- Serve as an advocate for the team to ensure adequate support and resources.
- Lead engineering controls and training to foster a zero-incident safety culture, including conducting laser safety risk assessments and audits.
- Implement process controls, support technician training, and resolve technical issues using SPC, 8D, FMEA, and DOE methodologies.
- Collaborate with the NPI team to assess technical requirements for new NPI/Product Transfer projects, ensuring alignment with in-house capabilities, and recommend technology or skill-set enhancements for execution readiness.
- Review technical data packs for new product variants and assess in-house manufacturing feasibility.
- Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of specific technologies, acting as a subject matter expert to address internal customer inquiries and issues.
- Manage and approve technical engineering changes to BOMs, process plans, and routings.
- Work with Design Engineering to develop new processes or improve existing ones for assembly builds, aiming for sustainable manufacturing yields in production.
- Optimize and qualify existing tooling and fixtures to improve productivity and yield.
- Drive a systematic approach to troubleshooting technical issues in daily production activities.
- Provide technical recommendations and conduct evaluations in response to customer inquiries.
- Coordinate activities with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure production build plans are on track to meet OTD (On-Time Delivery) schedules.
- Lead investigations into RMA products to determine root causes of failures or non-conformances, monitor corrective actions, and ensure process documentation, control plans, and work instructions are updated based on findings.
Requirements:
- Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics, Physics, Optics, or Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in high-volume manufacturing (HVM) or process engineering.
- Proven leadership experience in optical/laser/fiber product development or manufacturing within a cleanroom environment.
- Experience commissioning tests and measurement systems.
- Strong background in implementing and maintaining process control measures and quality assurance systems.
- Practical knowledge of root cause analysis, 8D problem-solving, and Design of Experiments (DOE).
- Experience interfacing with customers and leading escalations or technical discussions.
- Experience working in ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and AS9100 environments.
- Familiarity with new part number generation and change control processes.
- Strong understanding of cleanroom protocols, contamination control, and adherence to strict cleanliness and safety standards.
- Experience implementing safety programs, including risk assessments, safety audits, and safety training, particularly laser safety.
