Our Excelitas site in Göttingen is the centre of excellence for the development and production of photonics solutions for the semiconductor equipment market. For this highly demanding market, the Göttingen site supplies highly complex opto-mechanical modules, subsystems and components for applications in lithography, wafer inspection, chip bonding and packaging.
In addition, this site manufactures and supplies a broad range of optical and mechanical components, including complete optical systems, to support scientific research and development as well as industrial production.
The EHS Manager is responsible for implementing, monitoring and maintaining the company's environmental, health and safety programmes (both at company and site level) to ensure ongoing compliance with applicable international, federal, state and local environmental, health and safety regulations. The position is based in Göttingen.
Responsibilities
- Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and implementing programmes to ensure legal compliance.
- Maintaining all environmental, health and safety permits.
- Working with development teams, the supply chain and customers to ensure product compliance with EU RoHS, REACH and WEEE directives.
- Collaborating with the relevant teams to conduct incident investigations and implement corrective measures.
- Recommending corrective measures when EHS hazards exist and conducting on-site risk assessments with the relevant employees.
- Interacting with all departments to assist with EHS issues and promote a strong safety awareness and safety culture.
- Conduct ergonomic workplace assessments, safety inspections and ongoing workplace hazard analyses.
- Manage and maintain hazardous substance inventories, profile and list waste and recycling programmes.
- Support the Human Resources department in administering the sites' employee compensation programme.
- Conduct safety reviews of existing and new equipment/processes, including new product development, to ensure that all applicable EHS requirements (permits, secondary containment, safety training, etc.) are satisfactorily met prior to implementation as part of change control/change management.
- Train managers and employees to ensure they practise good safety culture and habits: general safety, accident prevention in the workplace and prevention of personal injury.
- Implement structured EHS training programmes that meet federal, state and local requirements for the type of business.
- Maintain and continuously improve the site's ISO14001 and ISO45001 management systems
- Lead the safety committee and emergency response team (ERT)
- Organise and oversee ISO14001, ISO45001 and all relevant EHS regulatory audits and inspections of the site.
What you bring to the table:
- Bachelor's degree in EHS, chemistry, chemical engineering or a similar/related field with at least 5 to 8 years of experience.
- You are qualified as a laser safety officer
- Good knowledge of MS Office.
- Practical knowledge of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 is required.
- Certified occupational hygiene and experience are an advantage.
- A certified internal auditor according to ISO14001 and/or ISO45001 is preferred.
- Ability to set priorities and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to manage and meet regulatory requirements and deadlines.
- Practical knowledge of environmental legislation is required.
- ERT experience preferred.
- Certification in CPR/First Aid/AED preferred.
- Certification in handling hazardous substances and universal waste is required.
- Practical knowledge of EU RoHS, REACH, PFAS and China RoHS is an advantage.
- Authorisation to work on export-controlled products (ITAR-controlled).
