We are presently seeking a Fabrication Process Engineer that will develop processes such as shaping, polishing, machining, and single-point diamond turning for manufacturing of low volume, high product mix optical components for new product introduction.
Main responsibilities:
- Serves as a technical subject matter expert for optical component fabrication processes.
- Creates and improves documentation for the manufacturing of optical components.
- Hands-on engineering support training technicians on the execution of fabrication processes.
- Monitors and drives improvement of production fabrication processes and equipment using SPC.
- Supports troubleshooting of existing fabrication processes.
- Helps review, disposition, and reduce non-conforming material.
- Assists in the transfer of optical fabrication process technologies from R&D to production.
- Identifies, justifies, and qualifies new equipment into production.
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field (Physics, Optics, etc.).
- Experience becoming a subject matter expert on a fabrication process regardless of material is desirable
- Experience with developing new product introduction and prototyping is desirable
- 10+ years of optical component fabrication experience highly desirable.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks or other CAD software desirable.
- Proficiency with SPC desirable.
- Experience with optical alignment and bonding of prisms desirable.
- Experience with structured problem-solving tools (8D, DMAIC, RC/CA) desirable.

Pay Range: $105,000-125,000 depending on experience.

Our facility in Boulder, Colorado has key functions in Research and Development, Operations, Production, and other disciplines. This facility specializes in the manufacturing of ultra-precision optical components, optical thin film coatings and optical sub-assemblies for demanding applications in lasers, materials processing, instrumentation, life sciences, avionics, and defense.
This site offers capabilities that include substantial design and engineering resources, comprehensive optical fabrication and coating capabilities, advanced assembly technology and an extensive in-house metrology lab.
